Today was an overly difficult day with Nathan. His 2 year old phase is in full swing, and in addition to this "terrible" phase, it's apparent that he is struggling being in between his older and younger brother. He can't quite understand why Ben isn't always willing to share his toys that are easily broken in Nathan's hands. On the other hand, why isn't he able to sit on Owen and horse around with him? In his mind, he isn't allowed to do anything! His response to this and other similar situations is whining and crying. Life isn't very fair for him, right now.
Luckily, he is able to express himself a little bit more everyday. As this continues, I hope the tantrums die down. He has a tendency to respond to every question in full sentences. It sounds very polite, actually. For example, "Nathan, are you tired?" His response is, "No, I'm not tired." Or "Nathan, do you like to play with Ben?" His response is, "Yes, I like to play with Ben." His answers are rarely a simple "Yes," or "No." He takes things literally. Even when he is crying, he will come to me and in between sobs, he will say, "Mom, I'm crying." I find this adorable, and it makes me laugh. However, in one situation, it was presented inappropriately, but innocently:
He was climbing up to the top of our piano (a big no no,) and he started to play with the little, Lenox picture frames I have displayed (another HUGE no no.) One fell and sounded like it broke, but didn't. But after a long, tiring session with him previous to this, my response was a quick and stern, "Nathan! What do you think you are doing??" His response? "I think I am looking at the pictures."
Sigh...gotta love him.
